Music Therapy Wishlist

‘All it takes is one song to bring back a thousand memories.’ Coleman Adult Day Services understands the power of music and the positive effects it has on our participant’s lives. They are able to connect with the notes, the words, and each other, which is why we are committed to growing our music therapy program. But, for that, we need your voice in our chorus.

“Whether a sing-a-long in the Rainbow Room or a group of local musicians performing in the Activities space, my dad always seems happier. In spite of his inability to recall basic daily tasks, he is quite capable of remembering every word to every favorite song. Singing puts a smile on his face. There is no doubt in my mind, music is magical for Coleman participants.”

Paul, son of George

We have an exciting opportunity to expand our musical therapy program that enriches the lives of our participants every day.

Funds raised will be used to help purchase equipment and supplies to enhance our many offerings, bring professional musicians to the facility for live performances, and take our participants on social outings to local music and arts event in our community.

“Seeing my mom singing with the others melts my heart. It was always her happy place, singing at church.”

Sharon, daughter of Sally

Along with bringing comfort and joy to our participants, our music therapy also stimulates and improves cognitive function, even in the later stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.

“Theresa has lost most of her eyesight, and can easily become disoriented, anxious, and agitated. I learned about music therapy at Coleman. Now at home, I use music to draw Theresa back to the present, mirroring the tempo to her agitation with upbeat songs, then gradually changing to slow, gentle tunes as she relaxes. Sometimes she remembers dancing in my arms.”

John, husband of Theresa
